The surface

Clinical green. Doctors trust it, and it avoids the hospital blue every health product reaches for.
The decision
WhatsApp instead of a patient app
Patients will not install an app for one surgery. They already have WhatsApp open all day. Cutting the app halved the build.
About
Surgeons track patients across WhatsApp, spreadsheets and paper. Post-op follow-up falls between them, so patients call the clinic to ask what happens next and the clinic answers the same question forty times a week.
Minerva is one platform where the surgeon manages the whole patient portfolio and the patient follows their own treatment, with automated WhatsApp messaging at each stage. The surgeon builds the journey for a procedure once; every patient then gets their own copy on their phone, telling them what to do that day.
I designed it, built it, tested it and launched it end to end. It is in production, with commercial partners in Brazil running sales and data analysis.

Notes from the maker
2 notesWhy WhatsApp won
Martín
The patient side was going to be an app. Then I did the maths: someone has one operation in their life and I was asking them to install software for it. It became a WhatsApp link. That single cut is the reason the thing shipped at all.
I built the wrong thing first
Martín
Version zero was a clinic dashboard full of charts, built before I had watched anybody actually work. Surgeons do not want charts at seven in the morning. They want to know who has not replied. I threw it away and started from that.
